Fall of the House: Artists Respond to Poe
October 29 – December 31, 2022
Opening Reception: October 29, 5PM - 8PM
The artists in “Fall of the House” are each responding to a general appreciation for the gothic and macabre spirit of Edgar Allen Poe while addressing three specific stories: “The Cask of Amontillado,” “the Fall of the House of Usher,” and the “Tell-Tale Heart.” The range of work in the show ranges in form and content, featuring everything from Alec Dolter’s installation of 50 handmade candle holders to minimalist graphite-on-paper drawings by Christopher Wood . Diane Levesque contributes canvases loaded with eccentric color while Sandra Cippolone pares down her shadowy compositions to emphasize the drama and intensity of Poe’s dramatic settings. Few writers could inspire such a range of subject matter and that range is on full gothic display. A relational performance piece even provides a cognac tasting that even Fortunato might enjoy.
