REAL TINSEL is emerging from the necessary hiatus with a show by Milwaukee artists Ella Dwyer, Thad Kellstadt, Amanda Tollefson and Becca Kacanda. In the time of Covid-19, presenting work in a traditional indoor gallery poses an obvious health risk, so for the immediate future we will be rotating shows in the prominent street-level window bays. “There’s Something in the Air”, features mobiles and kinetic sculptures that will animate the two corridor galleries, easily viewed from the street and from the open air vestibule. The title of the show, while literal, also suggests our general anxiety in the face of a host of unfolding crises. The colorful mobiles exhibited are as fragmented and contingent as our current moment, featuring textile scraps, driftwood, rubber, plastic detritus, and other found materials that bring order to disorder and at the same time keep it suspended and in flux.
“There’s Something in the Air” will run through the fall season. We will continue our window-based programming thereafter, with the intention to resume indoor programming and flatfile walk-in visits as soon as we feel it is safe to do so.
Enjoy from the street and we hope to see you in person soon!
