Not Again features recent ink-on-paper drawings, animations, and a site-specific wall drawing by Heimo Wallner. The work in the show continues his ongoing exploration of the human condition across a variety of media with openness and spontaneity. The dozens of drawings and the ephemeral drawing on the walls at tinsel reflect his broad and omnivorous approach to artmaking.
According to Wallner:
I draw, and this ongoing process manifests itself in piles of drawings, animations and when possible, room drawings - made quickly, with a clear deadline, these wall drawings force me to generate imagery on the spot and little strands of narratives crystallize, interweave, connect, and disrupt. They become rhythm, texture, ornament: wallpaper. The human condition is my quarry. Stupidity (my own and the general) an endless source. The banal and the essential, daily news vs eternal truths, private painful secrets turn into practical jokes - catharsis and damnation all at once.
Wallner splits his time between New Hampshire and Austria, where he is a curator and host of hotelpupik, an artist residency in the Austrian Alps. Wallner has shown internationally in Austria, the United States, and including Milwaukee-based exhibitions “In Limbo” at the Haggerty Museum 2001, “Holy Cow” at Hotcakes Gallery 2004, “Black on White” at RedLine 2012. “Not Again” will be his 4th solo show in Milwaukee.
